I'm seeing quite a few posts saying more or less the equivalent of "What Musk is doing with is really what all social media firms do." While it's true that all social media firms have complex issues and make mistakes, I would not agree that all social media firms sink to the depths of what Musk is doing. Not even close.

@lauren I completely agree with you. There is no comparison. For starters, most social media companies don't chase their members away.

@lauren One of his biggest mistakes is being on Twitter! Own it, but stay off of it. He has no objectivity. But he never wanted that.

@lauren Musk is doing what social media companies *would* do if they didn't care about PR or regulatory compliance. I think the point is that social media companies, like Musk, have no real strong ethical guidelines, they just are more practical about what they can get away with.

@ocdtrekkie I really do disagree. They are different entities with different sensibilities. Painting them with a broad brush just isn't fair, in my opinion.

@lauren Like, do you really think Zuck wouldn't sell your private messages to advertisers if it was both legal and wouldn't drive everyone away from the site?

@ocdtrekkie I doubt it. He's a lot of things, but I don't think he rises to the monster category. Unlike some people.

@lauren I'm confident Sundar would personally help navigate weaponized drones to people's houses if it made Google Cloud not third place. He's practically tried to a few times. Internal employee uprising is the only thing that stopped it.

I feel you vastly overestimate tech executive's moral fiber, as opposed to the external forces which force them into an Overton window of behavior. Musk just has an unhinged view none of those aspects will affect him.

@ocdtrekkie I'm not going to get into arguments about GCP here or employee reactions to particular issues/contracts, except to say that I personally feel these matters are not as clear cut as some observers claim.

@lauren I won't pin you on specific positions, I just don't think it's personal morals and ethics separating Musk from other executives.

If anythink, Musk is probably *more* driven by his personal ethics and morals than other executives, it's just his morals and ethics are really ****ed up.

@ocdtrekkie In other words, *genuine* evil.

@lauren Did you ever imagine you'd be praising facebook and linkedin?

@mcr314 There is *always* a deeper bottom in the universe of human experience. Musk is helping to prove that, quite effectively.

@lauren @mcr314 He started the Boring company so he'd finally have the tools needed to keep digging after he hit rock bottom. (and to stifle infrastructure obv)

@lauren As many others have said before, Elon Musk is a modern day Henry Ford. And Musk’s attitude toward Jews proves it.
